Why a Quick Trip to Phoenix Was Exactly What My Mental Health Needed

As someone who travels frequently for work, people often assume every trip is packed with meetings, content creation, events, and a full itinerary. While many of my trips do look that way, this recent getaway to Phoenix, Arizona, served a very different purpose. I needed a mental reset.

This year has been filled with a lot of growth, reflection, and transition. Between running businesses, planning events, creating content, writing, speaking, and navigating life as a newly 40-year-old woman, I found myself craving something I think many of us need more of: space. Not space to work on the next project or chase the next goal, but space to simply exist without constantly feeling pulled in a dozen different directions.

When life starts to feel overwhelming, I've learned that one of the healthiest things I can do is step away from my routine long enough to gain perspective. That's exactly what Phoenix provided.
One of the best parts of the trip was how easy it was to get there. Thanks to a nonstop flight on Allegiant Air, I was able to leave Cincinnati and trade gray skies and responsibilities for sunshine, palm trees, and desert views within a matter of hours. There is something incredibly freeing about boarding a plane knowing the only thing on your agenda is taking care of yourself.

For my stay, I checked into The Camby Hotel, and it couldn't have been a better fit for this trip. The property strikes a balance between luxury and comfort, making it easy to settle in and truly relax. From slow mornings with coffee to quiet evenings reflecting on the year so far, The Camby became the perfect backdrop for the kind of intentional rest I didn't realize I needed.

What I appreciated most about Phoenix was the pace. There was no pressure to constantly be productive. Instead, I spent my time doing simple things that often get overlooked in our busy lives. I enjoyed long walks, explored the city, visited wellness-focused experiences, and spent time outdoors soaking up the Arizona sunshine. I allowed myself to disconnect from the constant cycle of emails, deadlines, and notifications that can easily consume our attention.

As entrepreneurs and ambitious women, we're often conditioned to believe that rest is something we earn after we've completed everything on our to-do list. The problem is that the to-do list never really ends. There is always another project, another opportunity, another event, another responsibility waiting for us. If we continue waiting for the perfect time to prioritize ourselves, we may never do it. This trip reminded me that mental wellness isn't always about making dramatic changes. Sometimes it's about creating moments to pause.

It's about stepping away long enough to check in with yourself and ask whether you're giving your mind the same level of care that you give your career, family, business, and everyone else around you. By the time I boarded my flight home, nothing about my workload had changed. My inbox was still waiting for me. My responsibilities were still there. But I felt different. I felt lighter. More rested. More clear. More connected to myself.

Travel has always been one of my favorite forms of self-care because it gives me the opportunity to reset, reflect, and return with a renewed perspective. This trip to Phoenix was a reminder that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is take a break.
And honestly, it was exactly what I needed.

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, stretched thin, or simply in need of a change of scenery, consider this your reminder that taking care of your mental health is not a luxury—it's a necessity. Sometimes all it takes is a plane ticket, a little sunshine, and permission to put yourself first.
