There’s something exciting about exploring a city for the very first time especially one with as much culture, food, history, and personality as Philadelphia. Originally, I planned to stay in Center City, but at the last minute I decided to shake things up a bit and book my stay in Old City instead. It completely changed the vibe of my trip in the best way possible.
For my first Philly experience, I wanted more than just tourist attractions. I wanted charm, walkability, good food, hidden gems, and a neighborhood that felt connected to the heartbeat of the city. Old City delivered exactly that. Between the cobblestone streets, historic architecture, cozy cafés, and trendy boutiques, it felt like stepping into a different era while still having modern luxury right at my fingertips. Where to Stay For my stay, I opted for a boutique-style experience at Sosuite at The Loxley — and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip. If you’re someone who loves aesthetically pleasing stays that feel more elevated than a standard hotel room, SoSuite at The Loxley is such a gem. The property has this chic, apartment-style luxury that instantly makes you feel settled in instead of just passing through. The interiors were modern and clean with stylish touches that gave boutique hotel energy while still feeling cozy and comfortable. What I loved most was the location. Being in Old City meant I could literally walk almost everywhere. I stepped outside and immediately found myself surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops, historic landmarks, and nightlife. It made the trip feel effortless. No stressing over transportation or constantly calling ride-shares, everything felt accessible. The area itself is quiet enough to relax and unwind, but still lively enough to feel connected to the city. I loved taking morning walks through the neighborhood and seeing the mix of old-world architecture and modern city life blend together. It felt sophisticated without trying too hard. For a quick two-day stay, it was honestly perfect. Where to Play I had heard Philly had some incredible wellness experiences, so naturally I made it my mission to find the perfect spa day before my flight home. After doing my research, I booked treatments at Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon and let me tell you, this was the kind of self-care reset every woman deserves while traveling. I dedicated an entire half-day to relaxation, beauty, and wellness, which ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. First on my list was the Snow Bliss Treatment, which sounded luxurious from the name alone. The treatment is designed to cool, soothe, and refresh the body while creating a calming sensory experience. It felt incredibly relaxing and almost transportive, like giving your body permission to completely exhale after days of travel and nonstop movement. Next was the Buttercreme Float, which immediately caught my attention because who wouldn’t want to float in buttercreme? The treatment focuses on deep hydration and relaxation, leaving your skin feeling soft, nourished, and glowing. It was indulgent in the best possible way and felt like a beauty treatment and mental reset all in one. And of course, I couldn’t skip a classic Swedish Massage. Sometimes the basics are exactly what you need. Between traveling, carrying luggage, walking all over the city, and working nonstop, my body needed that release. The massage focused on relieving tension while improving circulation and overall relaxation. I left feeling lighter, calmer, and fully refreshed before heading to the airport. Traveling can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting. Building wellness into my trips has become essential for me, and Philly definitely delivered when it came to luxury self-care experiences. Of course, no girls’ getaway or solo travel moment is complete without shopping. I had to make my way to King of Prussia Mall because I’d heard so much about it and the hype was real. The mall is massive and truly a shopper’s dream. From luxury designers to beauty stores and everyday fashion favorites, there’s something for everyone. You could honestly spend an entire day there without seeing everything. Where to Eat Now let’s talk about the food because Philly absolutely showed out. I couldn’t visit Philadelphia without trying a cheesesteak, especially since there were multiple spots within walking distance from my stay in Old City. After hearing recommendations from locals, I decided to try Campo's Philly Cheesesteaks. Campo’s has been serving Philly since 1947 and is family-owned, which made the experience feel even more authentic. There’s something special about eating at places that have real history attached to them. The cheesesteak was flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I imagined a true Philly experience should taste like. As a coffee lover, I also had to stop by The Ground Rittenhouse. The aesthetic alone pulled me in, but once I saw a Banana Bread Latte on the menu, I was sold immediately. It was warm, comforting, and honestly tasted like fall in a cup. And finally, dessert. I heard Asher's Chocolate Co. was a must-visit for sweet treats, and now I completely understand why. Asher’s is one of the oldest family-owned candy companies in the United States, which instantly made me curious. The company has been creating chocolates and confections for generations, and you can tell there’s real craftsmanship behind what they do. For me, finding little local gems like this is what makes traveling memorable. It’s not just about the sightseeing it’s about the flavors, experiences, and moments that stay with you long after the trip ends. Philadelphia surprised me in the best possible way. Between the rich history, incredible food, luxe wellness experiences, shopping, and cozy Old City charm, it gave me the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. This trip reminded me that sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you switch up the original plan and lean into the unexpected. For this out-of-towner? Philly definitely earned a return visit.
